Learning outcomes of the course unit

The Student will acquire:
Knowledge of regulations, procedures and tools for Environmental Assessment;
Practical skills in the screening and scoping procedures and for the preparation of the Environmental Impact Study (SIA) and the Environmental Report (RA);
Capacity to work in a multidisciplinary group and ability to use software for multi-criteria analysis.

Prerequisites

Useful to have attended the course of Territorial Planning.

Course contents summary

The course is divided into four units.
1. Review of the levels of environmental vulnerability and risk in upland, lowland and coastal areas;
2. Principles, legislation and tools for Environmental Assessment;
3. Methods and case studies: EIA, ValSAT, VAS VinCA and IPPC;
4. Multi-criteria evaluation and software applications.

Course contents

Upgrade of basic knowledge on key environmental settings and of their natural resources.
Legislation, theory and methods of Environmental Assessment Procedures.
Regulations and instruments of spatial planning, cathegories and content of territorial plans, sectorial planning.
Tools for Environmental Assessment: environmental impacts, impact indicators, valuation methodologies.
Concepts and review of cases of Feasibility Study, Environmental Impact Study and Environmental Report contents.
Procedural aspects and case studies review of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Ecological Impact Assessment (EIA) and Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC).
Software tools for multi-criteria evaluation, example-studies review in preparation of a class exercise with the use of a dedicated software.
